Dear Parents and Families,
We hope you and your family are safe and healthy. As a school, we are continuing to work through various challenges. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we are adjusting to the changes in life and our community during the last few weeks. We would like to update you on some current changes that are occurring in our district.
Distance Learning and Website Resources
At this time, we cannot access any of the school buildings to retrieve devices for students. Since Shonto and the neighboring communities have individuals who have tested positive for COVID19, we want to take every precaution to avoid the spread of the virus. Therefore, the school created a list of resources recommended by our teachers to continue the learning at home. When you access our school website, www.shontoprep.org, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the link “Shonto Parent and Student Online Resources and More” banner. Finally, click on the grade level to access the recommended sites for each student in your household.
If you have questions for your teacher, there is a link at the bottom of the “Shonto Parent and Student Online Resources and More” page for you to contact your teacher.
Cancellation of Grab and Go Lunch
Shonto Preparatory Schools has canceled the “Grab and Go Lunch Program” under the recommendation of the Navajo Nation Health Department. Due to the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the Navajo Nation, it was discontinued for the safety and well-being of the community and staff. We will notify our community, when and if these recommendations change from the Navajo Nation.
Another change our district has recently encountered is Mr. Ronald Thompson has resigned from his position as the SPS Superintendent this past Monday, April 6th, 2020. Therefore, Ms. Melanie Dewakuku has been delegated as Acting Superintendent to ensure the day to day operations continue.
Please continue to check the district website for updates. If you have questions or comments please contact us at SPSfamily@shontoprep.org
